An individual or company that holds the rights to operate a branch of a larger company (the franchisor) using its name and business model.

A franchisee is an entrepreneur who pays an initial fee and ongoing royalties to a franchisor for the right to operate a business under the franchisor's name and system. Technically, the franchisee owns the assets of their company, but is licensed to operate under the trademark and trade name of the franchisor.
